Ten Canadian Artists | Ten Styles of Painting

I'm going to miss you | Eileen Hennemann

“I’m going to miss you” was the first thing I thought of when a painting I just sold left my studio. I had been living with it for three years. For part of that time my husband had it in his office because he liked looking at it and it was a good size beside his work area.

I don’t keep many of my paintings and I think many artists don’t. I am thrilled when another person connects with a painting on a level that is important to them. I, too, need to connect with the content when creating a painting and, as you can imagine, one can get very attached to the work involved.

The experience can be quite surreal. I can be painting and not realize how much time has gone by. I’ll get mildly annoyed if something interrupts my flow. I am consistently amazed that once I start a piece I can’t get away from it (if all’s going well) and I’m lost in some sort of artistic reverie that ultimately makes me feel really, really happy.

Thank you, new owner of Blue Moon. We had such a nice chat while you were here. You shared why you really liked the painting, which means a lot to me. I hope you will be moved every time you look at it. This fills me up, and I hope you will feel the same for a long, long time.
