Ten Canadian Artists | Ten Styles of Painting

Marina May Raike

Marina May Raike enjoys working in a variety of disciplines and media. She has a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design University, where she was awarded the Forsythe Scholarship for drawing and painting. She has exhibited across Canada, the United States and internationally. Her work has appeared in the TV series ‘Suits’, British Vogue, The Huffington Post, The Daily Mirror, and Ripley's Believe It or Not. Notable people who’ve acquired Marina’s work include Col Chris Hadfield and Damien Hirst. She regularly exhibits at Gallery Hittite in Toronto and online through Partial Gallery.

Marina’s current body of work is based on a reconnection with her maternal roots. Visions of the Canadian Shield, the Great Lakes, and Northern Ontario are expressed in deep hues, punctuated with intense highlights. There is an uncanny sense of expectation amidst the ancient geological forms. An occasional campfire or shack evokes the temporality of our place in nature.
